What Does the Proxy Checker Test?

IP Blocks

Exit IP

The IP address of the proxy that websites see when you connect through it - for residential proxies, this is the hostname.

Location

Location

The country associated with the exit IP address - the one your proxy connects from.

Multi protocol

Protocol

The type of protocol the proxy uses - HTTP/HTTPS or SOCKS5.

Use case Real estate x px

Connection status

The result of the test - whether the proxy is currently working or down.

Testing

Status code

The response code that shows exactly why a proxy passed or failed - e.g., 200 for success, 403 for access denied.

High uptime and speed

Proxy speed

The response time of the proxy during the test - the lower the number, the better the proxy’s performance.

Supported Proxy Protocols and Formats

MarsProxies’ free Proxy Checker supports all major protocols, including:

  • HTTP
  • HTTPS
  • SOCKS5

Use it as a bulk proxy checker to test multiple proxies at once, even if your list mixes HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5.

Our online proxy tester is built for authenticated proxies, so it requires a username and password for each proxy server. You can paste your proxy list in any of these formats:

  • host:port:user:pass e.g. 192.168.1.1:44445:user123:pass456
  • host:port@user:pass e.g. 192.168.1.1:44445@user123:pass456
  • user:pass:host:port e.g. user123:pass456:192.168.1.1:44445

Understanding Your Proxy Test Results

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I check proxies from other providers?

Yes. MarsProxies Online Proxy Checker works with proxy servers from any provider. As long as your proxy supports one of the accepted formats and requires username and password authentication, you can test it here.

Can I test rotating and sticky-session proxies?

Yes, you can test both rotating and sticky-session proxy servers with our proxy tester. Keep in mind that for rotating proxies, the exit IP shown is the gateway hostname rather than a specific IP address, since the actual IP changes with each rotation. Location also isn't shown for rotating proxies, since it depends on a fixed exit IP - which rotating proxies don’t have.

Why does a proxy pass the checker but fail on a specific website?

The proxy checker can only confirm that a proxy is active and responding correctly. However, websites can still block or restrict access using their own detection methods, such as flagging certain IP ranges, requiring specific locations, or identifying unusual traffic patterns.

Why do proxy test results change between checks?

This is normal, especially for the speed or response time metrics. Network conditions at the time of testing can cause response time to vary slightly between checks, no matter which type of proxy server you’re testing.

Why does the detected proxy location differ from the expected location?

Location is based on the exit IP, and this data isn't always fully precise. This is why the result may show a nearby city or region instead of the exact one you expected. You can also check your proxy configuration in your proxy provider dashboard to confirm you selected the correct region.

Does MarsProxies store my proxy list or authentication credentials?

No. Your proxy list and credentials are used only to run the test and aren't stored or saved afterward. Everything you paste into our proxy list checker stays private and is cleared once your session ends.

What are the benefits of using the right proxy?

Using verified proxies offers several advantages. They enhance your online privacy by masking your original IP address, making your connection harder to trace. Some proxies can also improve internet speed by caching frequently requested resources, reducing load times for repeat requests.

Other benefits of using reliable proxies include accessing geo-restricted content, managing multiple accounts, and collecting data with reduced risk of detection and blocks.

How does a proxy checker work?

A proxy tester or checker sends test requests through each proxy, which acts as a middleman that fetches web content on your behalf. This verifies functionality, speed, connectivity, and geolocation. Running the test more than once can help you distinguish between temporary network issues and consistent performance problems.

What's the difference between a proxy and a VPN?

A VPN encrypts all traffic at the system level, covering everything on your device. When it comes to proxies, you can configure them at a browser or tool level, depending on your use case. This allows you to use them for specific tasks like browsing or scraping and keeping your original connection for everything else.
